Reclaimed + Renovation

As a GC and Carpenter of many decades, I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity (& pleasure) to build our family home. The construction industry currently allows for (and is predicated on) the efficient disposal of all manner of material and equipment. All without regard for the condition and inherent value of what is being thrown away, not to mention the environmental consequence that this practice has on the planet. After years of being bound to this wasteful and systemic process, I realized that it would be necessary to approach this project in another way. Not an overly burdensome commitment, not an obsessive puritan approach, but rather a few steps in the right direction... Some walk to the talk. The commitment was made to incorporate elements of recycled materials and equipment into the build and to use local sources and manufacturers as a resource wherever reasonably possible. As a result, this home has become an assemblage of our collective history presented through reclaimed materials and the individual stories that come along with them.
